Heavyweight Suffolks fetch a top price of £ 153 per capita at the Newton Stewart auction

Messrs. Craig Wilson sold 736 premium cast sheep in Newton Stewart yesterday.

The 328 premium lambs were easily sold at an average of 323 pence / kg, or a total of 141 pounds.

The top price per capita was £ 153 for heavy Suffolks and the same for a Texel pen, while the top price per kilo was a Suffolk pen which sold for 333 pence.

The 213 top-notch Hoggs peaked at £ 126 for Blackfaces by Mrs. J McMillan, Glenchamber, with Beltex leading at 293 pence per kilo.

Heavy ewes sold for Beltex £ 163, while Mules sold £ 109 and Blackfaces sold £ 108.

C&D Auctions sold 38 cattle at its weekly Primestock sale in Dumfries yesterday.

Prime cattle were sold for Limousin crossbred heifers at 260 pence / kg, while Angus crosses peaked at 242 pence.

Beef OTMs averaged 146 pence at £ 1,165 and 170 pence, while dairy products sold at £ 1,125 and 171 pence averaging 133 pence.

There were also 197 top notch lambs in Dumfries yesterday which peaked at £ 160 for Suffolks to an average of 322p total.

The 83 top notch hoggs were sold for £ 134 on Texels.

Heavily cast ewes sold for 164 pounds on Texels, while Cheviot Mules went up to 110 pounds and Blackfaces 93 pounds.

The company also sold a large listing of ewes and pigs with lambs walking in Longtown on Tuesday.

The sale was topped by a large Texel crucian with a single lamb for £ 130.
