Celebration of music at MSUM’s International Make Music Day

Music lovers enjoyed fun in the sun with a range of international music and melodies.

MOORHEAD, Minnesota (KVRR) – International Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world, and Minnesota State University’s Moorhead School of Performing Arts hosted an international series of performances.

“The purpose of Make Music Day at MSUM is basically just a chance for us to connect with the community so the community can try something new, hear something new,” said Kenyon Williams, chairman of the MSUM School of Performing Arts.

The performances should remember the loss of the past year and at the same time look to the future with “This Moment in Time”. musical piece.

The audience was invited to listen and play a gong.

“I found this event very relaxing. Being able to partake in this beautiful sunshine is a nice cool day, and some of these gongs just make a wonderful sound, but being able to just sit and listen is a very relaxing way to stop and listen too to think you may have lost the things you may have lost during Covid. Everyone has lost something, ”said Williams.

Music is a universal language that everyone can turn to and people have the opportunity to experience the vibrations and sounds of a gong that can have therapeutic effects.

“The idea of getting together and kind of listening, and maybe all of that frustration by gently playing a gong and listening, is a great personal therapy opportunity for me,” said Williams.
