Two Durham natives competed for Best Children’s Music Album Grammy :: WRAL.com

— Two Durham musicians were recognized for their contributions to children’s music at the 2022 Grammy awards.

Durham native Pierce Freelon‘s album Black To The Future was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Music Album.

Freelon is an Emmy-award winning producer, director and professor who teaches at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Durham singer Rissi Palmer contributed to two of the albums facing off against Freelon. Palmer appears on 123 Andrés’ album Actívate and 1 Tribe Collective’s All One Tribe.

Palmer also appeared on Freelon’s first children’s album, DaD, released last year. The two wrote and recorded “My Body,” a filled song that addresses consent and body autonomy.

The Grammy Awards were held Sunday night.

The artist Falu ended up taking home the Grammy award for her album, A Colorful World.
