A council received that the gift of a Rolls-Royce sedan from the Tunnock’s biscuit tycoon has quietly sold it off — because it was gathering dust.
Glasgow city council was handed the keys of a £235,000 Rolls-Royce Ghost by Sir Boyd Tunnock. Tunnock, 89, wanted to see the vehicle used to ferry the city’s lord provost to official engagements, which he thought would maintain a sense of civic pride.
However, it was put to auction this year because it had sat in the council garage since 2019. The £105,000 proceeds will be used to help young people in the city to enter the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme.
