The new Mercedes Benz The S-Class is expected to be launched in India at the end of this month. The luxury sedan from Mercedes will initially come onto the market in a special launch edition with a choice of six-cylinder petrol or diesel engines.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Launch Edition: What do you get?
Last year unveiled the new gene S-class is larger than the outgoing flagship luxury sedan and offers a lot of technology. The flagship sedan will debut in India with a CBU import launch edition and will be offered with a long list of features, some of which may or may not be available as options for the locally assembled models.
Starting with the exterior features, the S-Class Launch Edition will be equipped with the new “Digital Light” LED headlights from Mercedes. The devices should be able to project symbols and guidelines onto the road surface. The Launch Edition will also be equipped with fold-out door handles and the main rear-wheel steering. The latter should make the luxury sedan significantly more agile and manoeuvrable. The launch editions are provided with AMG Line trim elements, which give the cars a sportier look with more aggressive design elements and light alloy wheels.
As you move around the cabin, you’ll be greeted by a heavy digital dashboard with a 12.3-inch instrument panel behind the steering and Mercedes’s new 12.8-inch portrait touchscreen that takes up a significant portion of the center console . The new OLED touchscreen will run the latest MBUX system (NTG7) from Mercedes and also offer face, voice and fingerprint recognition. As with other Mercedes equipped with MBUX, the system will also receive wireless updates. The system will also have 320 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM.
In addition, the Launch Edition models are equipped with 64-color active ambient lighting, a Burmester 4D surround sound system and massage seats at the front.
In the rear, the S-Class Launch Edition has a bench with electrically adjustable outside seats with liftable leg rests and massage function, a chauffeur package in which the passengers can adjust the front passenger seat from behind and seat entertainment screens, a central tablet controller for various functions in the car. Another unique selling point of the S-Class is the equipment of the luxury sedan with front airbags in the rear.
The equipment also includes numerous active driver assistance systems.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class Launch Edition: exterior colors and upholstery
Buyers have a choice of five colors – Designo Diamond White, Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Rubellite Red and Emerald Green. The first two will be available with either macchiato beige or sienna brown nappa leather upholstery, while the other three will be available with either of the two depending on the exterior color.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class Launch Edition: engine details
With the switch to the engine range, the S-Class Launch Editon will be available in two versions – as a diesel 400d 4Matic and as a petrol 450 4Matic. The S 400d will use the well-known in-line six cylinder diesel engine OM656 used in other large new Mercedes in India and will develop 326 hp and a remarkable 700 Nm of torque. The S 450 petrol engine will also have an in-line six-cylinder with turbocharging, which produces 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque. All-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission will be standard on both variants.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Rivals
As with its predecessor, the new S-Class competes against its traditional competitors, namely the BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8 in the Indian market.
In addition to the standard version with a long wheelbase, Mercedes is also presenting its flagship Maybach S-Class luxury sedan also in India in the coming months. They are expected to be followed by the latest all-electric vehicle from Mercedes, the EQS Flagship sedan.
