DiFabio, 51, known as “Lord of the Pies” and for appearances on “Chopped” and other television shows, was tried in federal court in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was ordered to report to jail on July 12th and remains free on $ 100,000 bail.

Prosecutors said DiFabio, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, was planning with others to hide revenue from the restaurants, resulting in more than $ 800,000 in tax revenue lost to the federal government. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to the conspiracy of filing false income tax returns and false payroll tax returns.

“It’s all true,” he said in court, according to a Hearst Connecticut Media report. “I behaved negligently and am not proud of it. I did this knowing that I was doing something illegal and I minimized the extent of it. And I let it go as I got more successful in business and opened more restaurants.

“I did this out of arrogance and I am very sorry and I understand the implications of my behavior,” he said.

DiFabio’s business partner in some restaurants, Steven Cioffi, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days in prison last week. Two other people – an accountant and an accountant for the restaurants – also pleaded guilty.

DiFabio owned several restaurants in affluent suburbs north of New York City and southwest Connecticut, including Pinocchio Pizza locations in Pound Ridge, New York, and the cities of New Canaan and Wilton, Connecticut.

Prosecutors said he paid about $ 125,000 in refunds and agreed to donate additional assets for the full refund.
