Durham, NC — Two Durham musicians were recognized for their contributions to children’s music at the 2022 Grammy awards.
Durham native Pierce Freelon‘s album Black To The Future was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Music Album.
Freelon is an Emmy-award winning producer, director and professor who teaches at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Durham singer Rissi Palmer contributed to two of the albums facing off against Freelon. Palmer appears on 123 Andrés’ album Actívate and 1 Tribe Collective’s All One Tribe.
Palmer also appeared on Freelon’s first children’s album, DaD, released last year. The two wrote and recorded “My Body,” a filled song that addresses consent and body autonomy.
The Grammy Awards were held Sunday night.
The artist Falu ended up taking home the Grammy award for her album, A Colorful World.
